This live performance takes writer Charlotte Beradt's (b. 1907, DE – d. 1986, USA) The Third Reich of Dreams as its point of departure. First published in 1966, the book brings together dreams collected by Beradt between 1933 and 1939, offering a rare and intimate archive of life under the Nazi regime. Drawing on these nocturnal narratives, the event weaves words and sounds into a polyphonic composition that reflects on the collective consciousness – and unconscious – formed under contemporary and resurgent forms of fascism, asking how political pressure inscribes itself into inner life, language, and dreams.
Schlechte Wörter / Bad Words is an audio series and sonic arts project conceived by Tanasgol Sabbagh, Fabian Saul, and Mathias Zeiske. The 70-minute live performance brings writers and artists together around a shared literary text. Readings, conversations, voice messages, and music converge into a sound composition that unfolds across voices and registers.
