The curtain is still closed; everything is ready for the concert. The calm before the crowd rushes in—the spotlights are humming. In an hour, crowds will pour into the hall to cheer on a legendary band. A group of fans, young and old, gets a backstage tour of the stage beforehand—how exciting! There stands the electric guitar on which the world-famous singer will soon play her chords. And here is the drum set where the drummer sets the beat.
But suddenly, a door backstage slams shut and won’t open anymore.
Behind it: the band—trapped in their dressing room. The group can’t free the band from their predicament either. But could they save the concert? They know the songs; some even play an instrument. The only problem is: no one wants to go on stage. Instead, stage fright, sweaty palms, whispered words, and the pressure of expectations! How do you quickly form a band where no one wants to be the frontwoman? How do you be loud when you’d rather stay quiet? Who steps into the spotlight when it seems safer in the shadows—and do you even have to dare to take center stage?
The performance collective hannsjana uses humor and plenty of music to explore introversion, self-confidence, shame, and excitement. “oh peinlich” is about people who don’t have to be brave, but instead show others how to make room for quieter talents. Because just because someone is louder doesn’t automatically mean they’re better.
