Leben im Liegen

Christiane Rösinger / HAU

Christiane Rösinger stays in bed: with new and familiar songs, newly arranged for orchestra, she devotes herself to pausing and not functioning, propagating a way of life beyond the constraints of daily overload. In her new HAU production, Christiane Rösinger – an Oblomov follower and long-standing expert on “life lying down” – will simply stay in bed this time and devote herself to pausing and not functioning. As a happy denier, she and her intergenerational “bed guests” take a look at our burnout society in order to promote a way of life beyond the constraints of daily overload. To this end, the musician and director can draw on her extensive collection of texts and music from the last 35 years, with which she has more to say than ever about self-determined lying down in ‘do your own thing’ capitalism. The songs are being rearranged for a small orchestra for the first time in collaboration with musician and composer Albrecht Schrader in order to focus on the big, sometimes melancholic questions of life. With an ensemble of old and new companions, the theatre becomes a space for community, not to promote inaction, but to find out how we might still be able to resist the fatigue of the present moment together.
