Helen Keller is not only an icon in the Deaf community, but amongst blind people as well: the writer, activist, teacher and first deaf and blind person to graduate from Harvard University. Anne Sullivan was her teacher, companion and lifelong confidant. Before the two became world-famous, they were an impetuous student and an imperturbable teacher – connected through a radical learning process beyond conventional language. A Deaf actor and a hearing actor bring this extraordinary story to the stage with puppetry, physical theatre as well as spoken and sign language. They explore different forms of communication, make sign language and Braille writing able to be experienced through the senses and, in doing so, open up new perspectives of perception, language and understanding. It is an intense, poetic theatrical experience about resilience, imagination and the strength to move boundaries. Audience discussion Following the performance, we invite the audience to attend a discussion with the artistic team that will be moderated by the cultural scholar Beate Absalon. The discussion will take place in English spoken language and Czech Sign Language and will be interpreted into German Sign Language. Questions from the audience can be asked in German Sign Language as well as English or German spoken language.   Accessibility A German Sign Language interpreter will be available before and after the performances to assist visitors as needed. The audience discussion will take place in English spoken language and Czech Sign Language and will be interpreted into German Sign Language. Early boarding available. Information about the accessibility of the venue in structural terms can be found here.
