The radicalization of Gudrun Ensslin and her involvement with the Red Army Faction (RAF) in the 1970s remains a subject of controversial debate and reflection due to its profound political and social impact. In her 2023 novel “Erzählung zur Sache”, Stephanie Bart brings this highly volatile chapter of post-war West German history back to life through the lens of Gudrun Ensslin, delivering – not least through the density and rhythm of her prose – a powerful foundation for an intense evening of theater.

Director and creative team, together with actress Susanne Jansen, have taken on the compelling task of bringing to life Ensslin’s constant state of resistance, her unrelenting sense of urgency, and the psychological state of permanent exception on stage.
