Das Herz eines Boxers

Jojo, 17, is angry at the world—and the world is angry at him. After a burglary, a juvenile court sentences him to community service at a nursing home. There he meets Leo, who doesn’t say a word. But the longer Jojo is forced to spend time with Leo, the more the silent man opens up and tells him about his turbulent past. For once, the grim old man was a celebrated professional boxer who fell hard—in the ring and in life. A friendship develops between the two. Leo challenges Jojo to shed his habits, excuses, and fears; at the same time, Jojo finds in Leo an ally who understands him without many words. Together, they devise a plan that gives both of them the chance to take control of their lives again.

1996—thirty years after its premiere at the GRIPS Theater—this classic of youth theater returns, taking a fresh look at the dialogue between generations and questions of masculinity.
