Blues in Schwarz Weiss

Fremde Poesie #5

May Ayim was a poet, educator, activist, and co-founder of the Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland (ISD). In blues in schwarz weiss, the book of poetry published right before her early death, Ayim finds a concise, poetic language to express moments from her childhood, her longing for love and connection, as well as her experiences with racism and exclusion. Ayim plays with sounds, spellings and letters, finding clear words to resist injustice and to raise awareness of the experiences and of challenges facing the Afro-German movement.

Lamin Leroy Gibba received the audience award at the 2023 Heidelberg Stückemarkt and the SWR2 Radio Play Award for his play Doppeltreppe zum Wald, created in the writing workshop Unconventional Signs – neue postmigrantische Theatertexte at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, and is making his directorial debut in the theatre with blues in schwarz weiss.
