Light Trees is a poetic, multisensory performance set in a world of creatures and light, where violence drains the land of its color and radiance. Triggered by the Japanese government's efforts to revise and erase the history of WWII sexual slavery, the piece metaphorically depicts this process of injustice.

The piece is performed by two Deaf artists in German Sign Language, poetic sign, and Visual Vernacular. Throughout the performance, moving lights and music (with lyrics in spoken English) accompany the stories. Sometimes, the soundscore contains vibrations, so that Deaf audiences can physically feel them. Light Trees is presented as a relaxed performance.

The first version of the piece that premiered in February 2025 was supported by IMPACT-Förderung. Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt.
