Opening Weekend at the Deutsche Oper Berlin

The Deutsche Oper is opening its doors to celebrate the new season together with all its staff from the choir, orchestra, stage, costume, and makeup departments, as well as curious visitors of all ages.

On a late summer weekend, Deutsche Oper Berlin opens its doors to celebrate the start of the new season together with the many people who make it all happen – from the chorus, orchestra, stage, costume and make-up departments – and with curious visitors of all ages. Whether you're a seasoned opera and ballet enthusiast or discovering them for the first time, the popular Season Opening Festival offers everyone the chance to go behind the scenes, find out more about upcoming premieres and rehearsals, enjoy plenty of music to listen to or join in with – and, of course, ballet!

Join the Dance with Tanz ist KLASSE! Just drop by and dance! No previous experience required, no restrictions – simply come along and join in. Outdoors and in a relaxed atmosphere, Tanz ist KLASSE! invites everyone to take part. Götz-Friedrich-Platz, 1.15–1.45 pm, 2.15–2.45 pm, 3.15–3.45 pm How to do Pointe Shoes Dancers from Staatsballett Berlin offer an insight into their daily work with their pointe shoes, demonstrating how they prepare them for performance and sharing a few professional tips and tricks along the way. The event will be held in German, with English sections summarised in German. With dancers from Staatsballett Berlin. Hosted by Katja Wiegand. Tischlerei, 5.00–6.00 pm

The Nutcracker: Creation on Stage Artistic Director Christian Spuck leads an open rehearsal with dancers Michelle Willems and David Soares, alongside ballet master Eva Dewaele and Pedro Sanchez on piano. Main Stage, 12.30–1.30 pm Children's Dance Class In the large ballet studio, Tanz ist KLASSE! invites children and their accompanying adults to try their first dance steps and discover the art of ballet mime. Please note: Places are limited. Tickets will be available from the Staatsballett information desk from the time the building opens. Participants should meet behind the Staatsballett information desk in the main foyer at the advertised start time. Ballet Studios, 2.00–3.00 pm, 3.15–4.15 pm, 4.30–5.30 pm
