Join us on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, to celebrate the opening of Kreuzberg: Kunst und Migration seit 1960 (Art and Migration since 1960) at Gropius Bau with free admission to the exhibition and a DJ set by Ipek. The group exhibition presents artistic perspectives on labour and migration in the district since the 1960s.
Nowhere were the social and cultural changes of 1960s and 1970s West Germany more powerfully manifest than in Berlin’s Kreuzberg neighbourhood. Here, the broader transformations reshaping life in the Federal Republic through labour recruitment agreements with countries including Italy, Greece, and Turkey became visible at the local scale. Opening in autumn 2026, the group exhibition Kreuzberg: Kunst und Migration seit 1960 (Art and Migration since 1960) focuses on the diverse and largely overlooked cultural production on the topic of labour migration and on how artists in the neighbourhood have responded to the tensions and issues of their time.
An awareness team is available during and after the event. You can contact the awareness team if you have experienced discrimination or harassment, need to deal with conflicts or emotions, or need someone to talk to. The team consists of trained anti-discrimination counsellors.
During the event, photographs and video recordings may be made in which you may be recognisable. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition. You may withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by emailing . Upon withdrawal, the photographs and recordings will no longer be used.
