As we scroll, bodies grow quieter, while other networks grow louder. On the internet, we are connected and alone. Misunderstandings pile up, and anti-communication becomes an endless space. “Lamento for Latency” is a dance performance about the hesitation between impulse and movement, touch and echo. Latency describes the delay between an event and the subsequent reaction. It is both a technical phenomenon and a deeply human experience—of time, closeness, and what is lost before it arrives. The performance focuses on the body absent from the digital fabric: receiving, delaying, transmitting. Two dancers form a real-time network in which connection and delay, resonance and misunderstanding are inextricably interwoven. In keeping with the theme of physicality at the nowHERE festival, the performance will take place as a “Relaxed Performance.” Different needs, ways of perceiving, and forms of participation are welcome. To ensure a stress-free arrival, the audience is invited to arrive in the auditorium starting at 6 pm and choose a seating option that suits them from among the alternative choices provided. “Stimming and fidget toys” provided on-site can help regulate one’s own perception and attention through repetitive movements. In addition, earplugs and a limited number of noise-canceling headphones are available to help individuals adjust their perception of sound.
