Introduction to Archival Work at Schwules Museum

Nestervals Eldorado brings queer history to life as an interactive experience. Archives are also important places where this history becomes tangible. How does a queer archive work—and how do you find what you’re looking for in it?

After a brief introduction to the function, history and structure of the collection of Schwules Museum, the workshop moves on to a hands-on activity: Working in small groups, participants will use a “miscellaneous box” to categorize articles, flyers, and other materials themselves. The workshop will then introduce research strategies and finding aids that participants can use in small groups to explore their own research questions. Finally, the group will head to the archive together to unearth some original materials. At the end, there will be time to share experiences related to archiving and research.

Speakers: Romain Pinteaux (Research Associate Archives, Schwules Museum), Leah Fot (Research Intern Archives, Education and Outreach, Schwules Museum)
