In Hydra, mysterious underwater soundscapes can be heard and seen that are otherwise inaudible to the human ear. Currents and turbulence created using large ocarinas, as well as hydrophone choreographies, are staged through live video.
Hydra is inspired by organic underwater sounds and noise pollution of the oceans. The concert series sounding ways of being 2, curated by Ute Wassermann, is about sound affinities, mixtures and interactions between voice, electronics,
instruments, objects and the element of water, inspired by the research of artist James Bridle: Humans are closely intertwined with an intelligent environment that encompasses the intelligence of animals, plants and machines. The second edition of this series is dedicated to the artistic exploration of the complex topic of ‘field recordings’, which serve as inspiration or starting point.
