"Good Night" Gathering for the 2026 Long Night of Museums

With Good Night Assembly, the Tieranatomisches Theater invites audiences to a unique evening of concert, collective listening and sonic encounter. Beneath the dome of the historic lecture hall, a polyphonic composition unfolds through voices, silence and resonance.
The lecture hall was built in 1790 as part of Berlin's first School of Veterinary Medicine. Above the singers stretches the dome painted by Bernhard Rode, whose frescoes depict the relationships between humans and animals, evoking care and control, rest and vigilance. During the Long Night of Museums, the audience gathers beneath these images to accompany the building and its creatures into sleep.
The musical dramaturgy follows the transition from evening into night. Renaissance madrigals, lullabies and polyphonic songs from different musical traditions intertwine with moments of silence and collective listening. Gradually, a shared soundscape emerges, becoming quieter as it carries the day to its close and accompanies the historic lecture hall into the night. The remarkable acoustics transform the space itself into a resonant instrument.
The evening features Kammerchor Sono97 and Bibliotheca Musica, conducted by Sergi Gili Solé, Todas las Voces, conducted by Byron Carrasco, and Johanne Braun with a vocal ensemble specially assembled for this occasion, bringing together participants from her summer workshop and singers from the Berlin women's choir Akazien-Grazien. Together, they weave different languages, musical traditions and voices into a single composition.
Good Night Assembly was developed by curator Paz Ponce together with artist, facilitator and voice practitioner Agnieszka Bulacik.
The event is part of the participatory audioguide project The Listening Theater, which develops new ways of listening to and remembering Berlin's Campus Nord. Good Night Assembly will be documented through audio and video recordings; excerpts may be used in the audioguide and in the project's documentation.
