The evening centres on two compositions whose creators engage with works of their colleagues: David Lang, drawing on an indeterminate, unnamed number of composers who, in his view, are constantly striving to highlight their own greatness through their works. And John Adams, who – following his 1992 Chamber Symphony – is again engaging with Arnold Schoenberg as the great role model when it comes to the chamber symphony genre.
