“DOWN (full album)” by Mélissa Guex explores feelings of emptiness and disappointment that can follow moments of great excitement. Together with drummer Clément Grin, she creates an intense encounter between dance and music that searches for ways beyond despair and hopelessness.We all know that moment: when something exciting comes to an end, when euphoria crashes into emptiness. The new work of Mélissa Guex is a physical and emotional exploration of this state most people try to avoid at all costs. Created for an arena amid the audience, the piece is an invitation to collectively descend into our inner and outer abysses. In collaboration with drummer Clément Grin,“DOWN (full album)” reacts to the current state of despair: an explosive encounter between a dancing body and a drum kit, a performance to overcome our seemingly hopeless present.

Artist's Note by Mélissa GuexI often find myself in crowds.At concerts. In demonstrations. During celebrations, vigils, marches.I am fascinated by the strange force that appears when bodies gather. For a moment,strangers share the same rhythm. A collective heartbeat emerges. Something larger thanourselves begins to move.I keep returning to this sensation.Moving through and with crowds.The visible ones.The invisible ones too: memories, ghosts, histories and bodies that came before us.I carry Louisa Yousfi's words with me: to remain barbarian.To keep alive what fear tries to tame.Today, when fear is increasingly used as a political tool, gathering feels necessary.To march.To dance.To celebrate.To mourn.To occupy space together.These gestures may seem fragile, but they carry a force.I keep looking for that force.
