DINNER FOR ONE

Installation

by Markus&Markus Theaterkollektiv

The event will take place at the PAVILLON AM MILCHHOF venue.

For a stage production in 2015, the Markus&Markus Theater Collective portrayed 81-year-old Margot, who was planning her own death with a Swiss assisted suicide organization. The collective accompanied the last weeks of her life. Almost every day she severed many meals to strengthen them all.

Now the collective is inviting the audience to the table. Bread, cake, cheese, and in the video: Margot. A dinner for one, where the host has already passed away, yet is still the hostess of a celebration of life.

At the table with Margot (Katarina, Markus, Lara-Joy, and Markus)

A production by Markus&Markus Theaterkollektiv in co-production with AULA im Milchhof and Ballhaus Ost. Funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion. Preliminary work funded by the State of Lower Saxony following a resolution by the Lower Saxony State Parliament

„If I would live longer, I would have to get a bigger table.“ (Margot)

ARTISTS

Lara-Joy Bues, Katarina Eckold, Markus Schäfer, and Markus Schmans have been working together as the Markus&Markus Theater Collective since 2012. Their work is characterized by intensive research, the results of which are captured on video and become an elementary building block of the production. The collective uses unusual research methods such as pilgrimages, messages in bottles, end-of-life care, or pen pals—theater work blends with life. They do not talk about topics, but work from the core of them. People who are directly affected have their say.
