Let’s head to “Sunday in the Nikolaiviertel”! A colorful program awaits you on the first Sunday of every month. Admission is free for everyone under 18 or eligible for a discount.

Discover eight hundred years of history and culture in Berlin’s oldest surviving church building! Since the Middle Ages, St. Nicholas Church has been the heart of the Nikolaiviertel and of Berlin. In the past, it was a place of worship. Today, as a museum, it tells the story of its architectural history, its history as a church, and the history of the city of Berlin.

Of particular interest to families is the model of the medieval twin cities of Berlin and Cölln. Here, children and adults can explore together which buildings from that era still stand and what the area looks like today.

On the event day, a guided tour of the permanent exhibition “Berlin’s Center” offers deeper insights into the history of the site. There are also two special exhibitions: “Fighting Over Stones?!” uses six video stations to explore the colonial past of Berlin’s St. Nicholas Church. “Who Ruled the City?” explores the church, power, and coexistence before 1800 and offers new perspectives on seven objects on display in the permanent exhibition.

An audio guide for families takes visitors through the museum with exciting stories in German. Specifically for children, there is a museum scavenger hunt available in German, English, Turkish, Polish, and Arabic, illustrated by Berlin-based comic artist Mawil.

Sunday in the Nikolaiviertel

On the first Sunday of every month, we offer a wide-ranging program for everyone at our three museums in the Nikolaiviertel. Families are especially welcome—admission is free for everyone under 18 or eligible for a discount. So look forward to great activities at the Ephraim-Palais, the Nikolaikirche, and the Knoblauchhaus!

Our solidarity-based pricing model offers free admission to adults with proof of eligibility for a discount, including students, apprentices, those participating in the FSJ, FÖJ, and BFD programs, people with severe disabilities, refugees, recipients of Bürgergeld or ALG I, and many others. Everyone else pays only the museum admission fee and can take advantage of our especially affordable combo ticket for all three museums. The extensive special event program is included in the price!
