BOULEZ ENSEMBLE & JÖRG WIDMANN

Sleeping Patterns: Works by Winkler, Janulytė, and Widmann

In the season’s final concert, Jörg Widmann and the Boulez Ensemble offer different perspectives on the music of our time. Widmann’s first ensemble composition Freie Stücke, written in 2002, is paired with his latest musical Labyrinth, which takes listeners into the depths of the Greek underworld. The program also includes the first Pierre Boulez Saal performances of music by Lithuanian composer Justė Janulytė and Stephan Winkler, who, like Widmann, teaches composition at the Barenboim-Said Akademie. Widmann’s Dubairische Tänze close the concert—and the season—on a lively and whimsical note.
