The String Archestra & Rothko String Quartet

The String Archestra supports people of colour in classical music and honours composers from various eras who have been overlooked due to their ethnic background. Its programme with the Rothko String Quartet draws on the rich musical heritage of three centuries across four continents – from the French-Senegalese composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745–1799) to “Normadic Nirvana” by the South African composer Monthati Masebe, born in 1996, and ‘The Holy Presence Of Joan D’Arc,” Julius Eastman’s poignant homage to the medieval heroine and queer icon.In our series “Berlin Tracks – Music of the City at the Konzerthaus,” musicians and ensembles from Berlin come together to experimentally blend classical Western music from various centuries with styles that all call this city home – from voguing to strings and synthesizers to jazz. “Berlin Tracks” aims to inspire, connect communities, and invite audiences to follow the diverse musical threads that together make up the soundtrack of our city.
