At the Movies with Dr. Aviel Cahn

Aviel Cahn presents «War Requiem» (1989) / Directed by Derek Jarman
Aviel Cahn concludes his first season as artistic director of the Deutsche Oper with Derek Jarman’s War Requiem – the film adaptation of the same work by Benjamin Britten that is also being performed on the opera stage this season.

During World War I, British soldier Owen is horrified by the atrocities surrounding him in the trenches. He combats these terrible images by clinging to his love for a field nurse. Yet at the same time, he begins to accept his fate as just another victim of the war.
