As part of a new global disorder, cultural institutions are becoming the sites where battles are fought out between highly polarised opinions. Activist agents and state institutions use different means to compete for influence over curatorial decisions. Artistic licence and freedom of expression are questioned while cultural institutions are increasingly imagined as supposedly neutral, impartial spaces. How do cultural institutions and actors operate within these tensions and what future guidelines and strategies can be formulated?
