Under the theme Glitter and Celebrate, we invite people of all ages, families, friends, and anyone interested to a special day of activities. The occasion marks the final day of the exhibition Family Matters and the fifth anniversary of the Humboldt Forum.
There will be a varied program featuring guided tours of the many interactive spaces in Family Matters, live portrait illustrations, and—if you’re up for it—a digital rendezvous with the AFFEKTATOR 3000.
In the workshop spaces, you’ll find plenty of hands-on activities, such as the creative drop-ins In Glitter We Trust, Smile, Please! and Treasure Chest, games for children and teens, foosball and table tennis for sports enthusiasts, and much more. Come by and celebrate with us!
Programme
11:00-12:00 All in the Family?! Insights for all generations (Ground Floor)
Family means something different to everyone. Through guided tours, visitors can explore different ideas of family at the many interactive stations. The exchange thrives on diverse perspectives and stories. People of all ages are welcome to join in—whether alone, with friends, or with family.
Recommended for ages 4 and over
12:00-15:00 Drop-In: Treasure Chest (1st Floor)
Who or what is close to your heart and deserves a special place in your treasure chest? Stuffed animals, family, friends, pets, Lego toys, comic book characters, or something completely different?
Come to the workshop and design your own personalized pop-up box featuring images of your favorite people or objects, then take it home with you!
Recommended for ages 3 and over
13:00-17:00 Live Portrait Illustrations (Ground Floor)
Would you like to take home a personal memento of your visit to the closing event? Right there on the spot, a portrait of you with friends or family will be created before your very eyes. The two artists, Doro Petersen and Marie Geissler, will capture visitors in their own distinctive illustration styles. Personal details or snippets of conversation can be incorporated into the drawing.

15:00-18:00 Drop-In: In Glitter We Trust. Family sparkles in many ways (1st Floor)
Who or what do I feel connected to, and which family memory would I like to pass on? What does family mean to me, and what makes it sparkle? In this drop-in workshop, visitors create small origami figures to serve as sparkling companions. This open-access activity invites participants to reflect on family at their own pace and to take the figures home as keepsakes.
Recommended for ages 6 and over
15:00-18:00 Drop-In: Smile, please! (1st Floor)
Just press the shutter button on a camera or mobile phone? How boring! In the cardboard photo booth machines, the portrait isn’t created at the touch of a button, but with a paintbrush and lots of bright colours. In the open-access session, friends or acquaintances paint each other’s portraits, or children paint those accompanying them. The resulting artwork is welcome to be hung on the wall at home.
Recommended for ages 8 and up
10:30-18:30 be mAI friend AFFEKTATOR 3000 (Ground Floor)
This interactive installation invites visitors to befriend an AI and reflect on digital relationships. At its heart is the chatbot AFFEKTATOR 3000, which raises questions about intimacy, loneliness and human-machine relationships. The installation is complemented by the short film *The Oasis I Deserve*, which explores relationships between humans and AI companions.
Recommended for ages 14 and over
10:30-18:30 Station: Family (Ground Floor)
What makes this exhibition unique is that it takes visitors through all the exhibition spaces and collections at the Humboldt Forum. The journey begins with ten meeting points – some of which are interactive – in the Family Matters section on the ground floor. They explore what actually defines a family: a pet name? Living together? Looking out for one another? Eating together? Being similar?
Participating artists
Marie Geissler
Marie Geissler is an illustrator, graphic recorder, and author. She studied visual communication at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and in Valencia, Spain, and lives in Berlin. In her studio, she creates thoughtful, poetic illustrations and visualizations of complex, factual content, concepts, and her own projects. She loves to immerse herself in other worlds during the creative process and works for book publishers, magazines, companies, foundations, museums, and educational institutions. At events, she creates live graphic recordings and portrait illustrations and shares her creative expertise in workshops and as an art educator.
Doro Petersen
Doro Petersen studied Visual Communication in Berlin and Bilbao, as well as Illustration in Barcelona. She particularly enjoys mixing artistic techniques such as sketching, stamping, paper cutting, and collage, enhanced with digital elements. Drawing is above all a movement of the eye, hand, pen, and soul! Doro Petersen conveys this philosophy through playful workshops at museums (Bauhaus Archive, PalaisPopulaire, Bröhan Museum, Käthe Kollwitz Museum). She also designs and illustrates participatory exhibition booklets for children for museums. Doro Petersen is currently a lecturer in drawing, color design, and illustration at Mediencollege Berlin.
