NDUDUZO MAKHATHINI & OMAGUGU

Special Guest: Ganavya

In this world-premiere program, South-African composer and pianist Nduduzo Makhathini asks a fundamental question: What makes sounds sacred? While there is a universal acceptance that, for instance, Western church music may represent sacredness, he says, we do not necessarily have a language for other kinds of music, particularly those linked to indigenous traditions in the global south, and how they relate to sacredness. Joined by two extraordinary vocalists, Makhathini will explore the spiritual potency inherent in their music and invite the audience to experience sacred sounds from different worlds.
