For Chilean-born saxophonist Melissa Aldana, writing music is first and foremost an emotional journey. “Through composing, I explore how emotions connect, intertwine, and quietly converse with one another,” she says. “In their interplay, I aim to reveal the hidden threads linking moments of joy, doubt, longing, and serenity, forming an intricate tapestry of who we truly are.” For her Pierre Boulez Saal debut, the Grammy-nominated artist is joined by German pianist Pablo Held to present a program of newly commissioned works.
