TreeFilmFestival
Movies
The TreeFilmFestival is the first of its kind and is dedicated exclusively to trees. The venue is therefore not a cinema, but the Parliament of Trees Against War and Violence, designed by Ben Wagin (1930-2021). He was an artist, nature activist and tree sponsor and planted thousands of trees, mostly ginkgos. The first trees in the Parliament of Trees were planted in 1991 in the former "death strip", diagonally opposite the Reichstag, between the Stadtbahn and the Spree. The main themes of the festival include documentaries about the transformation of living space and art projects. The films will be projected directly onto the Berlin Wall.
The festival is curated by filmmaker and cameraman Uwe Bohrer. He was already working on films about tree clearances in the 1980s and was present with his camera at the first tree plantations. His first shots of Ben Wagin were taken as early as 1975 and he later made several films with him.
