Spies Among Us (Documentary)

The documentary follows Peter Keup, once a celebrated competitive dancer in the GDR, whose life took a dramatic turn in 1981. After a failed escape attempt, he is arrested and is only released to the Federal Republic of Germany after a ransom is paid. Years later, he discovers that his own brother worked for the Stasi. He cannot let go of this betrayal. As a historian, Keup begins to come to terms with his past.

In his search for answers, he also confronts former Stasi officers and, in intense conversations, holds them accountable for their actions. “Spies Among Us” is a personal documentary about guilt, memory, and the courage to face one’s own history.
