The urban art duo Various & Gould invites you to the art workshop “Auf Kante.” The workshop will focus on the topics of housing, rent, displacement, and self-organization.
The workshop draws inspiration from both the squatter movements in Spandau during the 1980s and current issues surrounding gentrification, rising rents, and the right to housing. Together, participants will explore how the boundaries between private and public, security and insecurity, as well as withdrawal and political expression are shifting—then and now. The workshop will address these themes through the medium of textile art. In the process, techniques and forms of expression that are often considered separately will come together: activism and handicrafts, graffiti and embroidery, protest and textile design. This gives rise to individual works that combine personal experiences, social issues, and creative forms of expression. Textile artist Anita Hodneland will provide technical guidance to participants with her expertise in handicraft techniques.
