The Stasi also influenced the lives of GDR soccer players in a variety of ways. Like other GDR citizens, they experienced surveillance and repression, but they could also benefit from the system. The guided tour of the exhibition “Insight into the Secret” highlights not only the Stasi’s working practices and methods but also examples of how the secret police influenced soccer and its players.
Following the tour, you can visit the sample file collection at the Stasi Records Archive and submit a request to view files on-site.
