With the Belvedere Pfingstberg, Frederick William IV wanted to fulfill his great "Italian dream" in Potsdam. Inspired by Roman architecture, an imposing panoramic palace is built, which remains a popular excursion destination for Potsdamers and Berliners until after the Second World War. With the division of Germany after the war, the Pfingstberg ensemble suddenly found itself in the border area of the GDR and increasingly fell into disrepair. It was only through the commitment of young Potsdamers at the end of the 1980s that the unique site began to be saved. A member of the Förderverein Pfingstberg e.V. guides guests through the eventful history of the Pfingstberg. The tour focuses on anecdotes, individual expertise and first-hand experience of Karl Friedrich Schinkel's first work, the Temple of Pomona, the Belvedere viewing palace built according to plans by Friedrich Wilhelm IV and the garden monument created by Peter Joseph Lenné.
