Through his gallery in Berlin, Paul Cassirer promoted the spread of French Impressionism in Germany. Artists such as Degas, Cézanne, Manet, Monet, Renoir, and van Gogh gained wider recognition in the German-speaking world for the first time through him. Numerous key works found their way into major German collections and museums through his efforts, including the collections of the Nationalgalerie.
