With "Tanz auf dem Vulkan. Resistant Punk Women in the GDR", Geralf Pochop closes this gap. In interviews, diary excerpts and personal contributions, 23 women report on courage, rebellion and everyday life between subculture and the surveillance state.
Sonja M. Schultz also focuses on female self-assertion in the GDR. In her novel "Mauerpogo" , she tells the story of fourteen-year-old Jo, who dyes her hair bright green for her youth consecration and becomes a punk. Jo is soon targeted by the Stasi and faces increasing repression.
