While right-wing violence, racism, and antisemitism remain an integral part of German society, the commemoration of right-wing terrorist attacks currently receives little attention—especially when it is organized by non-state actors. At the same time, complex questions arise regarding the culture of remembrance, such as: What should the commemoration of Islamist attacks look like as part of a left-wing practice? How can a commemoration based on solidarity function, even though the culture of remembrance is being politically instrumentalized and the struggles against antisemitism and racism are being pitted against one another?
The initiative “Combating Antisemitism and Racism Together” invites participants to a discussion on what leftist remembrance and commemoration might look like in the face of ongoing violence, substantive disagreements, and the nationwide rise of right-wing discourses and actors.
For the past three years, the “Combating Antisemitism and Racism Together” initiative has organized a commemoration on October 9 to mark the antisemitic, racist, and misogynistic right-wing terrorist attack in Halle and Wiedersdorf; This year, the rally will once again take place on October 8 at Oranienplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg, in close coordination with the “October 9 Solidarity Group” from Halle, TEKIEZ Halle, and survivors of the attack.Translated with DeepL
