The Berlin-Karlshorst Museum is a memorial site with a complex history. The guided tour explores the traces of the building’s Soviet-era use and examines how this legacy can be contextualized and communicated today. Following the tour, participants are invited to engage in a discussion about how to deal with historical traces and the challenges of fostering a contemporary culture of remembrance.

Under the Open Monument Day theme “NetzWERKE: Monuments and Infrastructure,” the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst offers diverse perspectives on the site’s history—from traces of the Soviet legacy to artistic perspectives on memory and the present.

The program “HISTORY IN LAYERS” reveals how the eventful history of the museum building and its various phases of use are reflected to this day in its architecture and preserved inscriptions. Guided tours and performance art provide insights into the museum’s Soviet heritage, the history of World War II, and the challenges of a multi-perspective culture of remembrance.
