Guided tour: 65th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall

On August 30, 2026, a guided walk along the former Berlin Wall in Treptow will take place to mark the 65th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall.

For 28 years, the Berlin Wall was the quintessential symbol of German division. From August 13, 1961, to November 9, 1989, it divided Berlin into East and West and enclosed the entire territory of West Berlin. Both the construction and the fall of the Berlin Wall are among the most significant events in world history, and they are inextricably linked to the history of the Treptow-Köpenick district. This is because the longest inner-city section of the Wall—stretching 17 kilometers—ran along Treptow’s border with Neukölln and Kreuzberg. It cut through a vibrant residential area, dividing streets, severing transportation links, and suddenly separating neighbors, friends, and families from one another.

On Sunday, 30 August 2026 at 10 am, a guided tour along the former Berlin Wall in Treptow will take place to mark the 65th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall (13 August 1963).

The event is part of the ‘65 Years Since the Construction of the Wall’ project organised by Kulturprojekte Berlin. Further information can be found at: Projects | Kulturprojekte Berlin
