The Berlinische Galerie is launching a new series of its popular “Circuit Training: Art” program. This time, the athletic and discursive tour combines works from the permanent collection with pieces from the current special exhibition“Lovis Corinth. Then Came Berlin!” (Oct. 9, 2026–Jan. 25, 2027).

Born in Tapiau, East Prussia, Lovis Corinth (1858–1925) was already considered one of the best-known and most influential figures in the art metropolis of Berlin during his lifetime. In 1900, he moved from Munich to Berlin. At that time, the imperial capital was already significantly more progressive and vibrant than the Bavarian royal seat. “It all began in Berlin,” Corinth is said to have remarked about his meteoric artistic rise along the Spree.

The “Circuit Training: Art” program invites visitors to engage in a lively dialogue about works of art, which are explored station by station. This time, the focus is on the genres of painting in the first quarter of the 20th century, discussed with expert art-historical guidance. Corinth’s broad artistic oeuvre will be used to trace his multifaceted stylistic paths in dialogue with works by artists of his time. Corinth was a master of all genres—portraiture, history painting, genre painting, landscape, and still life. His compositions will be examined in depth in comparison with works by Jeanne Mammen, Lotte Laserstein, Max Beckmann, Edvard Munch, Lesser Ury, and Max Liebermann.
