Guided tour of the permanent exhibition: On “Sunday in the Nikolaiviertel,” you can step back in time and explore Berlin’s past at one of the city’s landmarks.
How important was Berlin’s oldest surviving church building to people in past centuries? What do the remaining foundations of the late Romanesque basilica tell us? What traces did the bombing campaign leave behind? And why is the former church now a museum? You’ll find answers to these and other questions here.
As a museum, St. Nicholas Church illustrates the purposes the building served and how the medieval city developed. The exhibition features historical artifacts from Berlin churches, objects from the city’s early history, and large-scale city models. Various themed stations highlight specific topics.

Sunday in the Nikolaiviertel
On the first Sunday of every month, we offer a wide-ranging program for everyone at our three museums in the Nikolaiviertel. Families are especially welcome—admission is free for everyone under 18 or eligible for a discount. So look forward to great activities at the Ephraim Palace, St. Nicholas Church, and the Knoblauchhaus!
Our solidarity-based pricing model offers free admission to adults with proof of eligibility for a discount, including students, apprentices, participants in the FSJ, FÖJ, and BFD programs, people with severe disabilities, refugees, recipients of Bürgergeld or ALG I, and many others. Everyone else pays only the museum admission fee and can take advantage of our especially affordable combo ticket for all three museums. The extensive special event program is included in the price!
