Fiery dance and poetic imagery: rhythmic, high-energy movement sequences blaze with the pulsing vibes of a city street against the backdrop of a symbolic wall. “Zweiland” by Sascha Waltz is almost 30 years young. A fast-paced, surreal choreography exploring “Pictures from Germany” – including borders and their transgression – in which absurd everyday situations meet character studies and fairytale imagery. Seven performers interpret German songs from different centuries, creating a space where music and dance melt into one.
There is an almost prophetic quality to the name: “Zweiland” (two-country) instead of “Einland” (one-country). The spectacular multi-layered production was revived in Radialsystem in August 2026, with a new generation of dancers catapulting this iconic work into the here and now.
