Claire Vivianne Sobottke and Sheena McGrandles have been collaborating since 2016. Over the past decade they have co-authored works, performed side by side, mentored one another, and sustained an artistic dialogue grounded in friendship.
Ten years after their durational performance “Bounty” at Tanznacht 2016, they now bring together their shared and individual worlds in two double twice.
two double twice is a choreographic, poetic and conceptual exploration of weight: heavy things, heavy bodies, heavy materials, heavy figures and heavy matters.
Constructed along a 20-metre wall, two double twice probes the potentials and limits of twoness, and descends into the duet, the couple, the duel and the double.
Working through endurance, competition, holding, colliding, resisting and figuring, the piece asks: how do we carry the weight of another?
