SAN PAOLO

SAN PAOLO

The Italian writer and director Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922–1975) believed that Saint Paul is here, today, among us, and that his conversion – from a persecutor of faith to a preacher of faith – is still taking place. He was working on a screenplay in which the Acts of the Apostles begins during the Nazi era and extends into his own time in postwar Europe.
However, he was never able to finish his screenplay. He was murdered under circumstances that remain unclear. But can we seriously believe that he wasn't murdered by fascists? And what if Pasolini's murderers were to return to power today?
The ensemble – led by director David Stöhr and dramaturge Dirk Brauner – explores, through a blend of drama, dance, video, and sound art, what a Pauline conversion might look like today, in the face of a resurgent fascism.

SAN PAOLO is a production by Dirk Brauner & David Stöhr, funded by Hauptstadtkulturfonds coproduced by Theater unterm Dach, in cooperation with PSD Collective/Uferstudios GmbH, with kind support by Silvia Kohlberger & Stefan Detzel. With Javeh Asefdjah, Jared McNeill, Jules* Elting, Tiziano PortasVoice: Angela Winkler Director: David StöhrDramaturgy: Dirk BraunerSet/Costume Design: Marie-Luce TheisVideo: Sébastien DupoueyMusic/Sound Design: Lasse WinklerChoreography: Evelin FacchiniAssistant Directors: Jay Mayhew, Alberto Afferni
