Soyeon Shin and Po-Nien Wang investigate the psychological dynamics underlying the feminization of technology, through choreography and movement. The artists question the ways which bodies are represented, controlled, and fetishized in digital culture today. The idea came from Soyeon’s earlier project The Dark Cloud, which explored the hidden materiality of the internet: cables, data centers, and its unseen infrastructures. During an early research, the artists quickly became aware of the overwhelming female-coded images and voices in the virtual world. From AI influencers to animated idols, these digital women serve as a continuation of male gaze, merged with the capitalist logic of consumption. Soyeon and Po-Nien think this phenomenon reveals not only gendered power, but also a deep emotional need – the desire for control and comfort behind the digital life. In The Digital Skin is a reflection on the power dynamic within the internet world, and an exploration of the potential for resistance in the digital age.
reinkommen ("coming in") is ada Studio's latest performance series. It gives young choreographers the opportunity to open their work process, invite the audience to come in and to get into conversation.
