The starting point of this collaborative work by Bobi H. Stojaković und Marta Marja Ruszkowska was the idea to engage with existing amateur dances from films. They have been inspired by Polish and Yugoslav films from the 50s, 60s and 70s, mostly films from new wave and post new-wave era, that have surreal and oniric quality and dealing with consequences of WW2, more specifically the intermission scenes of spontaneous dances, in a party, celebration or ceremony. Dance in them is creating a space that you can lose yourself in, both as a dancer and observer. What is interesting about this is the idea of a haunted dance or a dancing driving force that one can’t explain and is, unlike trance, not spiritual.
The motto for the “neworks” series in 2026 is CONTINUE WORKING. We want to give artists the opportunity to continue research processes they have already begun, develop them into full-length performances and present them at ada Studio.
