EUPHORIA 2.0

In times of humanitarian and ecological crises, hatred and fear are growing unstoppably and are polarising our societies. Based on the confucian Zhong Yong, also known as Doctrine of the Mean, and its central idea of the four basic human emotions of euphoria, anger, sorrow and lust, Hoyoung Im addresses the question of how these emotions can be harmonised in such a way that a happy and balanced life can be achieved.

Hoyoung Im's choreographic answer is to turn to his own personal history. He integrates the process of remembering his own feelings into the traditional ritual of the Korean ancestor cult Jesa in order to trace not only the differences but above all the common ground with the ancestors - by laughing, crying, enraging and desiring. The ritual negotiates the question of an ideal harmonious future and our willingness to prepare for the coming time. What do we need for humanity to be happy together?
