In the chamber music series "Werkstatt.Dialog.Musik" at the PalaisPopulaire, members of the Berlin Philharmonic introduce themselves and their instruments and talk in a relaxed atmosphere about the featured works, their interpretations, and their approach. Questions and a dialogue with the audience are expressly welcome!

In 1962, John Cage visited the world-renowned Zen Buddhist temple garden Ryoan-ji in Kyoto. Laid out in the 15th century, 15 natural stones of different shapes are arranged in five groups on a rectangular area of evenly raked, wave-like sand. The sand recreates the movement of water, while the reciprocal relationship of the stones unfolds in harmonious asymmetry to the viewer's eye, depending on the perspective.

The garden inspired Cage to create a series of compositions that can be variably assembled depending on the instrumentation. Cage processed the visit not only compositionally but also graphically. In the concert, the work will be performed with a lineup of flute (Egor Egorkin), double bass (Martin Heinze), percussion (Jan Schlichte), and tape. With its poetic and meditative character, the concert corresponds with the exhibition of Lucia Tallová, who, in her work, explores the fragility of memory in an accelerated, digital present.
