Mortal Wounds: Songs by Schumann, Poulenc, Price, and Others

“That I bear mortal wounds, that is the deed of man.” These words by Justinus Kerner, set to music by Robert Schumann in 1840, serve as the motto for the Pierre Boulez Saal debut of baritone Theodore Platt and pianist Keval Shah. In a fascinating program of German, French, and American songs from the 19th century to the present day, the two London-born artists explore the themes of suffering and reconciliation.
