Where the sun beats, and the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief, and the dry stone no sound of water. – T.S. Eliott, The Waste Land“There is a kind of beauty that doesn't care about you. The light is total, the heat has weight. It was here before you and it will stay after you leave. It doesn't soften for anyone. A landscape that keeps unfolding. A sky with nothing underneath it. The sun that rises whether or not you were ready, whether or not you slept, whether or not last night something broke that you don't yet have words for.” So says the 13-strong young Berlin collective UNRUHE, which, with this concert, exposes its audience to the open: Ádám Bajnok's Пикник II (Piknik II) sets up camp at the edge of the unknowable, a zone where seven instruments and electronics dissolve into each other, where the ground underfoot cannot be trusted, where beauty and danger are the same thing. Beltrán González's “dried roses, street lights and wet curtains” is a road through the desert, the heat pressing down on two people and everything they carry, the landscape outside the window slowly replacing whatever was between them. Ilona Perger's “Mycelia” closes the evening by asking the question that has been circling the whole night – not whether something will be found, but what it means to keep looking. Do you think we will find something?
