Born in Palestine and based in Berlin, Bakr Khleifi is always looking for new musical collaborators to share the stage with him and his instrument, the Arabic oud. Following several performances with the Iranian kamancheh player Misagh Joolaee in recent seasons, he is joined for his new Pierre Boulez Saal program by Derya Türkan, one of the leading virtuosos on the three-stringed Turkish kemençe. Together, the two artists will explore the rich tradition of maqam-based music of the Eastern Mediterranean from Armenia to Egypt.
