Sufian Ararah & Andreas F. Staffel – Sufian Ararah spielt Oud, Andreas F. sitzt am Flügel

An evening of original music inspired by North African traditions, rhythms, and Mediterranean culture, brought into dialogue with contemporary composition and improvisation.

Led by oud player and composer Sufian Ararah, the trio draws on musical traditions from across North Africa and the Mediterranean. Raised in Tripoli and deeply influenced by the Libyan Maluf tradition, Ararah's music reflects years of study, travel, and collaboration across the region, from Tunisia and Sicily to Istanbul. Together with Walid Bahri (electric bass) and Cherif Hammiche (percussion), the trio creates a distinctive sound rooted in maqam, rhythmic traditions, and improvisation while embracing influences from contemporary jazz and global music. Their original compositions explore memory, identity, and place, searching for new ways of connecting heritage with contemporary musical expression.

Later in the evening, they will be joined by pianist Andreas F. Staffel to perform Asdaa ("Echoes") and other original works from their ongoing collaboration."
