To kick off the Advent season, running fans can complete Berlin's oldest cross-country race, the Herbstwaldlauf (Autumn Forest Run).
The Herbstwaldlauf, also known as the Gunni Sachs Memorial Run, is a cross-country run through the Tegel Forest. Around 1100 participants can choose either the main 11 km run or various shorter distances, depending on their age and interests. There is also the family run with 1.9 km, the fun run & walking with 6 km, U8-U12 with 1.9 km, U14-U16 with 3.8 km and the U18-U20 with 6 km. Every finisher will receive a medal. The traditional end-of-year celebration always takes place on the 1st Advent. That's why there's Christmas stollen and tea. For the participants, it's all about having fun. In recognition of the work of Stephan "Gunni" Sachs around and for the club, this run has had the additional name since 2014: Gunni Sachs Memorial Run.
To be able to take part in the family run, the team must consist of at least 3 participants. One of these participants must have been born between 2020 and 2016 and another participant must have been born before 2015. The family must cross the finish line together. The youngest participant wears the start number.
Along hiking trails and alternating forest paths, the route is flat to hilly.
