The Wings for Life World Run is a charity run takes place at the same time all over the world. There is no set distance to cover.
Since 2014, runners and wheelchair users have been starting every year in May on 34 or 35 routes in 33 countries under the motto "Running for those who can't". Instead of a finish line, there is a virtual Catcher Car, which sets off 30 minutes after the start at 14 km/h and runs along the course, accelerating by 1 km/h every half hour. Participants who are overtaken receive a clear signal via the Wings for Life World Run app as soon as they have been caught by the virtual catcher car and are therefore eliminated from the race. Only one remains. This person is the winner of the charity run and receives a free starting place at the location of their choice the following year. The woman and man who have run the longest distance worldwide will become global Wings for Life World Run Champions and will receive a trip around the world as a special prize. All entry fees and donations go 100% towards spinal cord research and help find a cure for spinal cord injuries and paraplegia.
This year's Wings for Life World Run Berlin will take place at Tempelhofer Feld. The approximately four-kilometre-long course runs along the former runways of the airport and the surrounding paths. The route is flat and offers plenty of space for runners of all abilities. In addition, the entire course has a wheelchair-accessible surface. Participants can refuel at several snack and refreshment stations along the route.
